The only possible way you could get round this is to make all image BBcodes viewable by members only and show a placeholder image to guests.

You could do that?

Thsi is a good workaround. have you got any hints on how to achieve it?

Below are a couple of good lists of carbon stars. Most are long period variable stars. Rather than just looking at them, why not make estimates of their brightness.
